How to convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone and Mac
.heic in Preview, then choose File › Export and pick JPEG. On an iPhone, copy the photo and paste it into the Files app, which saves a JPG, or use the browser converter — which works the same on either device and never uploads your photo.Apple devices can already read HEIC, so converting on a Mac or iPhone is about producing a JPG copy to send elsewhere, not about opening the file. Preview's Export on the Mac is the cleanest built-in route and even lets you drag a quality slider. On the iPhone the built-in paths are a little hidden, which is why the browser converter is often the simplest answer on a phone.
Whichever route you take, the original .heic stays put — you're making a new JPG alongside it.
Pick your device:
1.Mac — export from Preview
Double-click the
.heicto open it in Preview. Choose File › Export, set *Format* to JPEG, drag the *Quality* slider, and click Save.Preview›File›Export›Format: JPEG
2.Mac — convert a whole folder at once
Select several
.heicfiles in Finder, right-click, and choose Quick Actions › Convert Image to make JPG copies in one step (macOS Monterey and later).Finder›Right-click›Quick Actions›Convert Image
3.iPhone — copy and paste into Files
In Photos, tap Share › Copy Photo. Open the Files app, go to a folder, and tap Paste — the photo is saved there as a JPG.

4.Either device — use the browser converter
Open the converter in Safari, choose your
.heicfiles, and save JPGs. It runs on the device, so nothing is uploaded — handy for a batch or when the built-in steps are fiddly.
